2:00 -5:00 pm. Registrants should bring a drum, horn, percussion, or any instrument they are comfortable with. FBonga will lead a music workshop in the traditional rhythms, songs and dance of Haiti. In his fun and upbeat style, Bonga will begin by discussing and demystifying Vodou, sharing the important place of music within this African-derived, earth-based cosmology. He will teach several drum rhythms and songs from Haiti, and demonstrate corresponding dances. All participants will be encouraged to drum, dance and jam in the session finale. Bonga will perform with local band ANBA TIERRA to deliver an uplifting danceable earthy mix of Haitian, Afro-Dominican and American musics, creating fiery rhythms, and at times, wild improvisation. ANBA TIERRA features Antonio Vicioso (guitar & vocals), Rob Miller (sax, flute, percussion, vocals), drummer Michael Schapiro (drums, percussion, vocals), and Craig Bender (bass). The group´s name, a mix of Haitian Kreyol and Spanish, means "under the earth" or "underground". *Before the show from 7:45-8:30 PM Bonga will give a short talk and Q & A about the current realities in Haiti and dispel some of the myths about Haitian Vodou.

This is a great spot to catch Bonga and the band in Williamsburg. It's a funky and intimate but it gets really rocking with dancing as the night goes on. Take the L to Lorimer or by car it's very close the Williamsburg bridge on the Brooklyn side. Make a left when you get off the Bridge and head close to the water Wythe between Metropolitan and No. 3rd.
